The Geriatric Emergency Management (GEM) Nurse may see people over 65 years of age who have come to the Emergency Department if they have been identified with special concerns. The GEM nurses have special training in working with older adults, and they can make recommendations for support at home, follow-up with specialists or to the Geriatric Assessment Outreach Team as needed. A referral from within the Emergency Department is required.
The GEM program at The Ottawa Hospital was recently recognized by Health Standards Organizations as a leading practice! Read more.
