"Move and Improve" - Chair Exercise Video

This chair exercise video called “Move and Improve / Bougez pour la santé” was developed by the Physiotherapy Best Practice Committee at The Ottawa Hospital's Civic Campus.

This video was designed for hospitalized older adults to supplement their daily physical activity and to reduce the effects of hospital associated deconditioning. The 12 minute video contains thirteen seated exercises for the neck, arms and legs which are performed slowly to music and are appropriate for many older adults.  There are separate English and French versions of the video.

This is general information developed by The Ottawa Hospital.  It is not intended to replace the advice of a qualified health-care provider.  Please consult your health-care provider who will be able to determine the appropriateness and safety to participate in this exercise program based on your specific situation.

For health care professionals, there is a patient / client screening document which highlights potential precautions to consider including joint-mobility restrictions, shortness of breath and pain concerns.   See the link to the “Chair Exercise Video - Screening Tool for health care professionals” below.
